Padmaavat Movie Review

Set in an era where a certain race, Khilji is trying to overtake Delhi leaving their mark as champions. Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh) – a crazy king goes into a war with full throttle against Rajputs for his one mad wish. The beautiful side of the story has an almost perfect love story of Rani Padmavati (Deepika Padukone) and Rawal Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor). A perfect couple living a perfect life until a dark cloud named Alauddin Khilji starts hovering over their life. Revolving around the life of these three people, Padmaavat is the story of love, war and madness. The face-off between these two kings and how they stake everything over one mad wish. Padmaavat Movie Review: Script Analysis Written by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Prakash Kapadia, this surely is Bhansali’s toughest work till date. From portraying the insanity of Ranveer Singh to keeping everything under a line as far as Rajput sensibilities are concerned. It’s so brilliantly written film, even the dark situati...

Toilet ek prem katha movie review

Story: The makers already revealed the basic premise of the film from their promos. It’s about a small-time guy  Keshav  (Akshay Kumar) who lives in a village resided at North India. He falls in love with  Jaya (Bhumi Pednekar) and gets married with him. Now on the very first day of her post-marriage, she is being invited to join the ‘ lota-party ’ from the neighbourhood ladies, which means to do ‘toilet’ in open. Jaya is outraged with this tradition and demands to have a toilet in home. However, Keshav’s father is against with this idea as it goes against with their culture. How Keshav takes up challenge to install a toilet in his house for to win his wife’s heart and changes the so-called culture of the village by bringing up a revolution, forms the crux of the story. Screenplay and Direction: The basic premise was strong enough to make a remarkable film, and so does the writers-directors team ensured to balance everything. They effectively managed that t...

Tubelight movie review

'Tubelight' stands on a tiny plot & Writer-Director Kabir Khan gets stuck midway. Once Bharat leaves for war, the narrative just becomes stoic. And Laxman's relentless effort to bring back his brother with the power of 'faith' is overlong & tedious. Also, the sub-plot involving Laxman's relationship with a Chinese Family, of a mother & child, don't add much to the goings-on. To give its due, 'Tubelight' begins well & the camaraderie between real & reel life brothers offers genuine charm. But that doesn't last long. In short, 'Tubelight' doesn't make good use of its tiny plot & just goes on 136-minutes.  Kabir Khan's Writing is the weakest link here. Though his intentions are to deliver a noble message of love & peace, but the Writing isn't tight enough. Also, there are too many songs in the film & they only drag the film. Khan's Direction is alright. Aseem Mishra's Cinematography ...

Raees movie review

You have to manage expectations when watching 'Raees', directed by Rahul Dholakia. Why? There are gaping flaws in the film, as there are in all Shah Rukh Khan films, even the best of them.  The editing and the structure is an absolute mess. It is evident that there was no clear direction taken on how this film is to be edited - they tried to cut it short, but there is too much plot in the film, so it ends up being absolutely tattered and incoherent, with a staccato of short scenes that are sort of flat and don't impact you, in the first half.  Don't give up on it, though, because it gets better. A lot better.  'Raees' is a Bachchan-era crime-drama that has all of the tropes you identify from the sub-genre. What it also has, importantly, is the politics of that kind of cinema. Here is a character who is a gangster and charges at right-wing political rallies with alcohol bottles and a flash-mob; here is a character stoically bent on making sure that his busi...
